An online survey conducted on behalf of Just Right by Purina revealed some unexpected facts about the bond between dogs and their owners.

It’s not for nothing that dogs have the coveted title “man’s best friend.” Our four-legged companions are always there for us, through thick and thin, and they have been for a few thousand years. So, it doesn’t come as a surprise that a new survey conducted on behalf of Just Right by Purina revealed that, for an overwhelming majority of pet parents, their dog is their closest confidant.

The survey was conducted online, and over a 1,000 pet owners over 18 years of age have given their input about the unbreakable bond they share with their canine. According to the findings, a whopping 95 percent view their dog as part of the family, but the closeness doesn’t end there. For 62 percent of the participants, their dog was what helped them unwind after a long, stressful day at work, and over a half of the respondents, it was their dog who provided emotional comfort after they’ve heard bad news. It seems that, for a significant percentage of the group, canines turned out to be the perfect companion in every aspect. They’ve improved bad mood and brightened up bad days, and were there to console them when they needed it the most. And, most likely as a result of that, the surveyed ladies revealed something surprising.

Over 50 percent of the women that participated in the online survey answered that they prefer time with their dog over time with their partner and/or other family members. For millennials, which are redefining what pet ownership means right and left, this might not be uncommon. After all, countless studies have shown that younger generations of people are picking pawrenthood over parenthood, choose their workplace for the pet perks, and pick out travel destinations and dating partners with their pet in mind first.

Having in mind how much pets mean to their owners, should it surprise us that, sometimes, they prefer their company to that of people? That doesn’t mean that dog owners will forgo any two-legged companion and relationship, it’s just that, in certain situations, a pooch’s knowing eyes and a comforting snuggle are the best cure for anyone’s woes.
